This seminar will discuss the life and art of Fikret Muallâ in light of new findings presented in art historian Ahmet Kerim Bekcan’s master’s thesis, Fikret Muallâ: Metropolitan and Cosmopolitan Encounters.
About Ahmet Kerim Bekcan
Ahmet Kerim Bekcan graduated from the Department of Art History at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. During his undergraduate studies, he participated in the Erasmus program and studied art history at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany. He completed his master’s degree in the Department of Western Art and Contemporary Art at the Institute of Social Sciences of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
In his thesis, Fikret Muallâ: Metropolitan and Cosmopolitan Encounters, he re-evaluated the painter Fikret Muallâ in light of new findings uncovered through research conducted in the digital archives of Heidelberg University Library and the State Archives.
Bekcan also served as a member of the organizing and executive committees of the 7th, 8th, and 9th editions of the Istanbul Archaeology and Art History Student Symposium. Since 2024, he has been working at the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet while continuing his research in art history.
