Scent has historically been regarded as a distinct domain from visual and auditory art forms; however, it has emerged as a substantial element of contemporary art in recent years. This seminar will predominantly address the role of scent in aesthetic theory and philosophy, with a particular emphasis on how scent has been identified as a medium of expression in art since the 20th century. In this framework, the position of scent in art and its use in contemporary artistic practice will be investigated by examining experimental artworks, performances, and installations.
