The talk titled “Form and Meaning in Saul Bass’s Visual Narrative”, to be delivered jointly by multidisciplinary artist and academic Dr. Lecturer Berna Kılıçoğlu and Lecturer Dr. Seda Çilingir, focuses on the iconic film posters and title sequences of Saul Bass, an experimental figure in the world of art and design. The presentation analyzes Bass’s striking poster designs and his reductionist approach, which is based on the idea of shaping the viewer’s experience from the very first frame of the film, through the lens of his body of work.

Berna Kılıçoğlu (b.1985) is an academic and multidisciplinary artist and designer. She completed her undergraduate education at Kadir Has University, Department of Visual Communication Design, and her doctorate at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Art and Design. She has been working as an Asst.Prof. at Istanbul Topkapı University, Graphic Design Program for a long time. In addition to her academic productions, Kılıçoğlu is active in various exhibitions and festivals in Turkey and abroad with experimental media and techniques such as digital collage, moving image, projection installation.
The focus of her works mostly consists of representations of nature, manipulated images and forms that blend imagination and reality.
Comics&Art Festival (ICAF, 2019), Portland Ceti Institute Art Exhibition (2020), New York Creative Code Art Festival (2020), Amsterdam MozFest Digital Art Festival (2021), International Women’s Day, “Gender-Free” Chain Digital Art & NFT Exhibition (2022), The Wrong Bieannal, Adam Meets Eve Pavilion (2023), 3rd Sci Fi & Fantasy Film Festival, Digital Arts Selection (2024) are among the events she has participated in recently.

Seda Çilingir Hamarat (b.1995) completed her undergraduate education at Istanbul Aydın University Graphic Design Department with a high honor degree and her doctorate education at Marmara University Institute of Fine Arts, Graphic Department. In 2018, she started her academic life as a research assistant in Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Graphic Design, where she completed her master’s degree. She is currently working as a lecturer at Istanbul Topkapı University Plato Vocational School, Graphic Design program. Illustration, graphic design, motion graphic design, visual metaphors and animation are her main areas of interest, and she has academic and artistic activities in related fields.
